Iran is located in southwest Asia and borders Persian Gulf, Oman gulf and Caspian Sea. Iran has borders with Armenia, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan in north. Iran has also has borders with Turkey and Iraq in west and in east Iran has border with Afghanistan and Pakistan as well. Iran is the 18th largest countries in the world with 1,648,195 km2 and 72 million populations. Tehran is the capital city of Iran with the highest population. Some other large cities in Iran are Mashhad, Esfahan, Tabriz, Karaj, and Shiraz.
Around 1200 BC, some people invaded west Asia, moving south
from central Asia. These people were called the Persians and
Medes. Sometimes the weather was really bad and the Persian
couldn’t find enough to eat. So they moved to south because it was
warmer and they thought it was better to live and they can find
enough food. They settled in what is now Iran. By 600 BC, the
Medes and Persian mixed into one group, under one king. In 559
BC Cyrus, who was a Persian, made himself king. Cyrus conquered
the whole rest of west Asia. He is remembered as a good ruler. He
managed a huge group of people with many different languages
and religions. He allowed each group to keep their religions and
traditional.

In 521 BC Dariush, who was a cousin of Cyrus became a king of
Persia. He was a Persian and a Zoroastrian. He moved the Persian
capital to a new city of Persepolis. He hired workmen from all over
to work on new buildings there. Most the Persian king were
continued to expand their empire for many years.

The Iranian revolution happened in 1979. Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was king of Iran, left the country and Khomeini, who was a leather of revolution, took control the nation. After that Iran (Persia) became an Islamic country until now.
